Bateman your host of the form adversity, to abundance podcast, and today, what I want to do is take a break from the guests episodes and review the most recent 11 episodes. So, this will be our 25th episode, and I am happy to say we have been consistently putting out content weekly for the last 24 weeks or so. So, I am going to head on, I am going to review these episodes, 14 through 24 and give you some of my own thoughts and takeaways, and lessons. I have learned and might give you some insight into which episodes I recommend, you check out in case you happen to miss one or two. And I really hope you all are enjoying this podcast quiet. Honestly, I would love to grow The Listener base? More than we have been able to, I am Super excited about the show still and I really am I enjoying it, you know. So it really does go a long way if you can like And subscribe and you know, smash that like button as my kids used to say. But in all seriousness, if you can share the podcast with your friends and give us a positive review on all your listening favorite, listening stations, that really does go a long way. So that's my one request here is look, we're putting out this free content. It does take work, it does take money to do and you know if you can just share it with your friends and recommend it to others that goes a long way. So I would really appreciate that. Going back to Emma Pals episode, which was, let us see. It was epic episode 14. That was a really fun one. Emma actually is a homeschooler and a For real estate investor. And you know she's going through a good amount of adversity. Just like all of our guests have and a lot with, with family things, and some instability with her husband's work. And so excuse me, she's been a guest on over 40 podcast, she's no stranger to being interviewed. She was on the Bigger Pockets podcast, and we dive into the years, leading up to the covid-19 pandemic. Where there's some real struggles, kind of surrounding their home life and it's a really great episode especially for mothers and women out there who want to get into real estate. Investing multifamily investing and may not know you know how to do that. And we talked about Big Rocks vs. Little Rock's. How Emma goes through prioritizing things and how her priorities have shifted away from scaling. And I know, she started an investment club which is pretty cool. We talked about her son's autism. We talked about her challenges with raising capital and scaling a real estate business, and then pivoting toward the investment club, like I mentioned, and the importance of communication and how to get away from a victim mentality. I think this is one that's extremely practical, that a lot of listeners can relate to, in some ways we talk about the passing of family members, And husband her husband's unemployment. And like I said, her son's, a challenges and with autism. And so I think just those three things right. There are very relatable for a lot of people. So I think it's a very practical relatable yet, still inspiring, moving episode for sure. Episode 15 was Marcus, Ross. So we talked about his pain and persecution. Personal pain going through a divorce and separation from his is actually he had two divorces. Marcus is the founder and owner of ready to heal counseling. I believe he's actually since changed the name of his company so you might want to check on that again, we talked about his background and some of the communication issues he had. This one is less focused on entrepreneurship and it's not focused on real estate. It's focused on primarily, you know, his message is aimed, At men going through divorce. We talk a lot about personal growth and emotional development. How he learned good bad and ugly from his parents growing up and how he's trying to how he had implemented some bad some — you know, patterns in his own life and how he's trying to change that. And now he's trying to help other people do better themselves. So he's a counselor and it was a, it was a very enlightening. Episode very personal, and he's in Australia. So, you know if you like that accent, that's, that's pretty cool too. It's definitely one. I would recommend. It's a little different from the, you know, you're the normal guest profile. I guess I would say on our show. He's not so much into real estate. He does have his own business. That's weather is that angle, but he was still working for a an employer when we talked to him. So it's more of a personal kind of counselor. Episode versus entrepreneurship and Rags to Riches per se. Pretty cool talk we had though the next one was very popular. We have it's actually really close to the most popular episode based on download statistics and obviously, the First episodes have been out longer, so they have got a little bit of a head start for sure, but David Dodge from drugs and crime to a second. Chance and 20K per month from rental properties. David is awesome. He's got so much energy. He's a real estate, investor, and coach and talks about how to buy properties that a discount. He's got a lot of experience with wholesaling and the Burr method. He's in the St. Louis Missouri area. I really enjoyed connecting with him. We talked, we dive into some tragedy and trials that he faced during the first two Decades of his life, which he's learned a ton from, and he kind of got a second chance and, and he's obviously made the most of it. He and his partner business partner, make 20K a month in rental properties and, you know, and he's just such a positive upbeat guy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and obviously the listeners you all enjoyed it as well, based on the numbers that I am looking at. So again, how to buy at a discount and how to wholesale Or save properties for your own portfolio. That's really what he's focused on. But again, we did dive into some real serious stuff as far as challenges that he faced regarding the loss of his parents before age 18, as well as he was facing, a seven-year prison sentences in his 20s and so that didn't end up happening, but he still went through some real adversity regarding Legal adversity based on some criminal activity that he was either involved with directly or surrounded by. And so he's completely turned that around. That's, you know, a thing of the past which is awesome. So you know, that's one of those highlights the, I guess the, the benefits of our system is giving people a second chance, and he clearly has made the most of it. So I had a lot of fun talking to David Dan Harbor cost was the next episode. He's the CEO of front raid rangeland, and we talked about escaping, the fear-based scarcity mindset that he grew up with and I would say, we didn't Focus as much on You know deep adversity in this one. It's again a very practical episode, and he talks a lot about just having the wrong attitude toward money and how when he grew up his family parents friends, you know neighborhood. That the surroundings he was found himself in were looked at money from a scarcity angle, and he's flipped that around. Now he sees he has an abundance mindset. And so, I mean, he's super young, he started in real estate at 16, he got started in land investing, which is his primary focus. Now, I know he does some, some single-family building. I believe ground up building an if I am not mistaken, but he started and land investing in his 20s and has been doing the focused on land and I guess wholesaling since then, He is has definitely made money his slave if you will, as opposed to being a slave to money or at least, you know, putting money in its place and having an abundance mindset over money. And he's I see him posting all the time about different, you know, travel and hiking and then you know, different trips, he takes, and he clearly at such a young age 26, it's just super impressive. This success he's found at Such a young age. I realize he's super smart guy. Awesome, awesome episode. The next one was from scarcity to abundance. With real estate, investor and a million millionaire immigrant and Veteran and author, Mariela sober honest. So, margiela has a phenomenal story, she came to the US and didn't speak English and didn't know anyone. So I can't even imagine, you know, those two things right there. She's been in real estate since 2006, but he started out in single family homes. But in the last since the pandemic started in the last 3 years, I will say she and her husband have just their growth has been explosive in commercial real estate. And when I say commercial, in this case, I mean multifamily syndications and I think if you include their passive Investments, If they have approximately 2,500 rental property doors, so you know, her story is amazing. Again, immigrant came to the u.s. At age 23, didn't know the language and didn't know anyone. So she ended up choosing to go into the u.s. Navy and, you know, just she's her book is called from scarcity to abundance. So it fits our podcast. Well, and so, that's actually how I found her was through her book on Amazon and just having the abundance mindset. She's clearly an action Taker, and she and her husband, you know, I see them on social media, a good bit as well. They talk a lot about diversifying, their real estate, and financial portfolios, and building generational wealth, and just a lot about mindset. And she also has plans, they have done a lot of medical Missions. And she has a plan to go back to Mexico to her hometown to do another medical Mission, which I think is an awesome way to give back. So really enjoyed that one, the next episode we did, I got a chance to talk to AJ, Osborne. AJ is the founder and CEO of Cedar Creek wealth. His primary focus is self-storage. Estate investing. But we talked about his crazy and unfortunate story regarding his health challenges where he has nothing to do with covid, but he got a bunch of vaccines when he was traveling years ago. And it's interesting because you know, I got flagged our, our Facebook posts, and I think Instagram posts about his episode, they were flagged for covid related. You know, questionable material Which is you actually listen to the episode, AJ's actually pro-vaccine but what ended up happening to AJ was just incredible. He was paralyzed from a an audio autoimmune disorder that came out of vaccines. He was given years ago, and he ended up being laid off from his job in the hospital. This was all around age 33, and He was paralyzed and on life support from a rare autoimmune disease disorder. And, you know, let go from his job. While in the hospital, his brother ended up moving from Hawaii. If I recall correctly to take care of him and, you know, is extremely touching go, and he, you know, he didn't know if he would see his family again, his kids, they didn't tell them what was going on at the time because they were so young, it just, they just didn't have a lot of answers. So, He's faced an incredible amount of physical adversity and then obviously, through that mental adversity and emotional adversity, and it's just an amazing Story, how he's turned it around, and he created two businesses in his wheelchair, he's just a wealth of information and it's such an inspirational story. I really did enjoy that. That chat with AJ. He's got a lot of going on. He's its not just his self storage stuff. He's got his hand in a lot of different things regarding real estate and self-storage and wealth building and technology and you know. So but just his perspective is incredible. You know, obviously he appreciates life now and I remember him saying he's never had more joy. He's got more joy now than he ever did, and he's in more physical. Local pain (now) than he was before, which seems counterintuitive, right? But that's a kind of must listen. I would say that episode. It's really, really one of my favorites. Next one was Kevin Dahlstrom and so this is, I called it climbing rocks, not the corporate ladder. How and why Kevin Dahlstrom walked away from a seven-figure job? Kevin was making I will say one 1.2 1.3 1.4 million dollars a year. I don't know exactly how much it doesn't really matter. That's a lot of money and that was in you know as a marketer Chief marketing officer I believe could be wrong, but he walked away from that much in salary and you know you on one hand you could say oh well he was making so much he's got so much saved up. That's easy to do on the other hand. If you know you're going to get Fifty thousand dollars deposited into your bank account in two weeks. It's kind of tough to walk away in my opinion. So but we talked about three different main types of adversity that Kevin went through one was family dysfunction growing up and sounds like his. We didn't get into too many specifics on that, but it sounds like he faced it's very serious adversity regarding kind of his upbringing and just Didn't have the best environment. It sounds like the tumultuous upbringing, for sure, and then we also do talk about some real. I guess health challenges that Kevin faced for, I think it was about 10 years that he faced real health challenges and you got to understand this guy is he's in his he's 50 or 51. Now, he's an incredible shape. He's one of my favorite follows on Twitter, he's he just drops wisdom all day long on Twitter. It's so practical and so insightful I thoroughly enjoyed this. This conversation with Kevin. He so the three main areas of adversity that we talked about were the upbringing and his surroundings there and then the Health Challenge that he went through and then I guess. Actually trying to remember what the third one was the end of the day. He had was making a ton of money and wasn't satisfied. Wasn't happy. And so this is a really good one for, you know, people to understand That money, you know, the love of money, you know, and money. It's not going to solve all your problems. There's more to life than money and why? Retirement is a trap for many people. And essentially, he faced a midlife crisis, he calls it a reset. But he I think in SE hace, 48 years old, something like that. Moved his family from Texas to Boulder, Colorado, he quit his job. And he was retired for about three weeks realized that didn't that wasn't going to cut it either. But now he sounds, I think he just has things in perspective, a lot better than chasing the almighty dollar, and he is a rock climber. He's an incredible shape, he started a company called swell and that company I think is going to be a huge success. It's their doing some really cool things with swell. It's pretty fascinating. Dating trying to bring all different investment types and investment options. Not just the stock market, but a lot of real estate investment opportunities that were that currently are mostly for accredited. Investors swell is focused on bringing a lot of those opportunities to kind of the average, non-accredited person out there, which is awesome. And then they're also going to be working or maybe already are. I am sure working on, you know? Allowing people to have credit. That's you know unsecured debt credit that's in the more reasonable range. Say maybe eight to ten percent versus this crazy 20 to 24 percent of credit card debt. So he's really serving the kind of non accredited investor and it's really, it's pretty awesome. But he says he's just such a genuine and smart fun guy. Talk to, I really enjoyed talking to him. You know. I would love to have him back on. I think he's just he's one of those guys is just going to do well whatever he does. Really fun insightful episode for sure. It's we just couldn't there's he has too much knowledge to squeeze it all into one episode, so I will have to try to have him back on. Brian Davies was next his so I went, I knew Brian in high school, he's younger than me. And he got out of college, he was a college athlete, finished up college, and, and then experienced incredible challenges regarding his health. And so, you know, he ended up because of an autoimmune disorder. Brian ended up losing a leg and was dealing with severe isolation. So a lot of mental challenges From the physical challenges that he experienced. And so, the his life did not take the course he expected after college, and He goes through, he's a very good Storyteller. It's a very moving episode I would say it's less focused on, you know, wealth or real estate. It's not focused on that at all. Actually it's not so much focused on the abundance in today's world as far as you know, investing or entrepreneurship but an incredibly moving episode. Brian is, you know, passionate funny really. I mean he's a great guy and you know he's just all about helping others getting his story out there to help others. He's a genuine person. The this the last I would say probably 10 years. I don't know exactly but his life has not Yeah I guess would be longer than that. A huge chunk of his life. Has just been him dealing with these physical challenges that you know, honestly he didn't ask for, he didn't do anything to kind of bring this on. So it's not like he was making all these poor choices, and then he got this physical ailment. It just happened to him. And so one key point in that episode is when he talks about, you know, he was speaking with his father about Why me, why did this happens to me? You know, and his father says something like well who would you wish this upon that if it's not you who would you want this to have this pain in this these trials and tribulations and then secondly his dad says you know what are you going to do about it? And, so I think that really you know, struck him and that helped him turn things around. I know he's not completely out of the woods with the physical. Changes, but just, he's, it's such a, he's such a passionate guy and such a good guy. It's, I highly recommend listening to that one the next episode, I chatted with Brittany Turner, founder of aerial group, you know, she went from living in her car to buying an island and so, her focus is so much bigger than, than mine or most people's. I will A. And when I say Focus, I mean her focus on making a global impact, so she's got seven different businesses. She went through. She was never passionate about real estate. I don't think, but she used real estate as a vehicle to Accrue wealth and gain cash flow and build businesses, and she her ultimate goal. Really was always too. Make a global difference in a positive way. And so she's either firsthand been involved with or coordinated many, many missions trips. And you know, kind of anti-poverty missions if you will. She's been highly focused on ending sex trafficking and ending poverty. And you know, Building Wealth was strictly a means to do all of to make this Global impact. So yes, it's a rags-to-riches story but it's much bigger than that. And so she's if we I spoke with her from her, you know, over the internet, but she was on her outside, you know, on her Island and one of her neighbors is a Richard Branson and so it's a Double success story just looking at the material success that she's had compared to where she was years ago. Like I said, living out of her car and not being able to make ends meet or barely being able to but It's this one is just like, just blows your mind because their mindset is so much kind of bigger and more powerful than what most of us are used to. So she's really all about solving poverty, helping others. I know they now do. She now does organizes kind of trips to her Island, and she hosts events there to try to benefit others, and it's pretty amazing. So, Yeah, rags-to-riches but much bigger than that. It's more about a global impact. So it's a must listen as well. The next two episodes which are the most recent ones are It really moving their as a military veteran myself? I don't really have words. I can relate to some of what these guys talk about, but John kriesel is a motivational speaker at Still Standing LLC, and he has a book that he wrote that's I think it's called Still Standing or something. I have to double-check that, but he has got a wild story. He was in the Minnesota National Guard and in Rach. He lost both of his legs and two close friends and you know, he talks about this, and he talks about getting a second chance at life and you know, the adversities he went through from a mental and emotional and physical angle and it's just incredible. So he also went on to be a part of the Minnesota, House of Representatives, which is incredible. And now he's a He's on the Power Trip Morning Show on K fa n sports radio, and he also serves other veterans. Not as much focused this episode wasn't as much focused on entrepreneurship or real estate, but just mindset and having fun and getting through difficult situations and serving others. I had a lot of fun with John. He's in six or seven fantasy football leagues. And he's a fun guy to talk to you. For sure. The last So we're going to talk about here. Just came out actually today. So when this episode is released, it will have been one week. But Aaron Hale is also a US military veteran. He was in the Navy as a cook for eight years, and then switched over to the Army, because he wanted to be in, on the action. And he lost his sight in an IED explosion in Afghanistan, four years later, he lost his hearing due to complications from all of that, all the explosion he developed bacterial meningitis. And so now you know I interviewed him. He's a fascinating guy, he is blind and deaf. And you know, just the fact that he's able to get through all, that is amazing. He's a kayaker. An extreme sports guy, a runner and then what he did was he ended up creating a company that is called. I think it's EOD fudge.com. Is the website but it's called extraordinary Delights and so it's a it's essentially a fudge and chocolate company that's had a lot of success, and then he took those profits and the income and is now focused a little bit more on real estate. So we do talked a good bit about his real estate investing in real estate business. Super smart guy really, I really enjoyed the conversation. Also, very funny and see he's you got to. He keeps you on your toes with his humor. And I really hope to keep in touch with Aaron that. That's a, I thoroughly enjoyed that episode. So as you can tell, I have enjoyed all of these. These episodes I am hoping this. This also adds value to you and again, please do like, subscribe, share, give us five star reviews. It really does go a long way or truly hoping to impact as many people as possible and get the word out about facing. Our city overcoming adversity getting to abundance and you know that looks different for everyone. But ultimately I am just trying to inspire people and add value.
